SUNDERLAND Rugby Club were blown away in the first half by a Horden blitz as they fell 59-29 to their East Durham neighbours.
The Ashbrooke club were 47-3 down by half-time with Craig Jones scoring a hat-trick as Horden ran in nine tries – seven coming in a first-half masterclass against a bewildered Sunderland.
Andrew Raine had a hand in the first two touchdowns. The scrum-half broke down the blindside with Michael Bland picking up to drive over and Raine barged over for a second try.
Jones took the score to 19-3 before Andrew Turner intercepted from halfway to go under the posts.
The next score came from a scrum. Newton Turton broke blind and quick hands from Raine and Hartley put Jones in for his second try to make it 33-3. White went under the posts and just before half-time, Jones completed his hat-trick.
Sunderland scored three tries, two of which were converted, to cut the score back to 47-22 before Witte took Horden past the half-century mark and Purvis scored under the posts.
Sunderland scored again with the last play of the game for the 11th try of the contest.
