SUNDERLAND Under-10s’ defence stood strong to keep Billingham at bay as the Wearsiders battled to draw 5-5 on Teesside.
The under-strength Ashbrooke youngsters hit tackle after tackle in a game dominated by defences.
Jack Cahill and Russell Chapman-Smith led the tackle count, as Billingham were repelled.
However, as the ball was shipped out wide, the home side skirted the wing to cross for the opening score.
Bryson Robinson repeatedly smashed his way through the Teessiders’ defence.
Ethan Ellis ploughed through numerous tackles, and a powerful series of drives, saw captain Jack Cahill, supported by Sam Watson, smash over the line for the equaliser.
Both sides went for the victory, with a late Josh Rose dash for the line too late for Sunderland to snatch a dramatic victory.
