Sunderland Under-12s had to dig deep before emerging 30-15 winners away to Bishop Auckland.

In a tight first half, the Ashbrooke youngsters found themselves 10-0 up after two powerful surges through midfield, leading to scores for Bryson Robinson.

Bishop pegged Sunderland back, with two breakaway tries after slipping tackles in midfield.

Jack Taylor then bulldozed over to see Sunderland regain the lead, at 15-10, before half-time.

After the break, a chip and chase by Josh Jobling saw Russell Chapman-Smith turn the ball over, for Jobling to follow up with a try. Robinson added a third score and Chapman-Smith capped a fine performance with a well-worked try to see Sunderland close the game out.

Sunderland U13s made it four wins out of four in October – scoring at least 50 points in all of them – with a comfortable 56-14 win over Billingham at Ashbrooke.

The victory eased them through to the second round of the County Cup. Once again, the forwards led the way, scoring nine of the 10 tries, full-back Caleb Lowes claiming the other for the backs to add to his three conversions.
