SUNDERLAND Under-13s succumbed 38-10 to Darlington Mowden Park.
Mowden got off to a flying start after an early steal saw them go 7-0 up, but Sunderland fought back well and made good tackles through Reece Thompson, Fletcher Jackson and Louis Deathe.
The Ashbrooke lads reduced the deficit through a superb long-range penalty from Ben Hutchinson.
The second period started with a forward surge from Ty Hanlon, but Sunderland’s injury curse struck once again, and their already depleted forward pack lost Cam Miller to injury.
Mowden took advantage and pounced with a second try to go 14-3 ahead.
A neat move involving Michael Holder, Jackson and Matty Clinton saw Farai Chickumbrike over the line to give Sunderland hope, with Holder converting to cut the deficit to four points.
A well-timed lay-off from Jackson to Dean Edmundson took Sunderland close, but good defending by Mowden stopped them in their tracks.
Mowden showed their dominance to quickly move the ball across to score, and added another try after a number of missed tackles. Two further scores sealed their commanding success.
