SUNDERLAND’S Jean Graham, Christine Hopper, Janet Sykes and Susan Almond secured the Sunderland Women’s Bowling Association rinks title for the Ashbrooke club at Barnes Park.
In the final, they overcame Thompson Park’s Catherine Sterling, Catherine Cowey, Alice Rush and Mary Ramshaw 20-7.
In the semi-finals, Almond beat Roker Park’s Ann Candlish, Iris Cantes, Pat Johnson and Maureen Firth 16-11, while Ramshaw pipped Whitburn’s Moira Smith, Brenda Harper, Maureen Smith and Muriel Felce 21-17.
H Houghton Dairy Lane’s Joan Rodgerson has moved into the quarter-finals of the Bowls Durham ladies county singles, after beating Consett Park’s Ann Bernard. Rodgerson next hosts Norton’s Joan Mason, who beat Dairy Lane’s Glynis Morgan 21-12.
Sunderland’s Susan Almond exited 21-12 to Ann Anderson (Darlington Woodland) and Hetton Workmen’s Norma Stephenson went down 21-11 to Consett Park’s Gill Jones.
In the pairs, Houghton Dairy Lane’s Susan Foster and Joan Rodgerson entertain Hetton Workmen’s Audrey Vout and Norma Stephenson in the quarter-finals.
Rodgerson beat Holmes (Dawdon) 29-13 in the last round, while Stephenson pipped Brown (Pelton Fell) 19-18.
