NEIL Rose produced a sensational performance to reach the semi-finals of the Knack Premier League’s Cath Rose Memorial Tournament.
The third staging of the annual competition, played over the 20 doubles format, marks the halfway stage in the league campaign.
There were two preliminary games, with Anthony Gale beating Ray Malarkey 2-0 and John Redpath upsetting the odds with a 2-0 victory over Davey Thompson.
In the last 16, Redpath saw off Gale 2-0, while Johnny Allan pushed Neil Mather all the way only to be beaten 2-1.
John Squire caused an upset when he won the decider against Anth Skelton, while there was also wins for Paul Williams, Neil Rose, John Nicholson, Steve Skinner and Kevin Guy.
In the quarter-finals, Guy ended Squire’s hopes with a 2-0 win.
Nicholson edged out Skinner, while Mather defeated Redpath, but the match of the night saw Rose avenge his defeat in last year’s final with a sensational performance against league leader Williams, winning 2-0.
