SEAHAM’S David Patterson is celebrating another impressive county success.

Patterson, the 2007 Durham County strokeplay champion, squeezed home in an epic Durham County Match Play Championship final.

He proved too strong for Ravensworth’s Jordan Bettis in last week’s semi-final at Wynyard, storming through 5&4, before just edging a tight final clash with Boldon’s Rhys Thompson.

The match ended all square after 18 holes and it took two extra holes before Patterson prevailed.

Patterson earlier came through the qualifying programme with victories against Bishop Auckland’s Jamie Birkbeck, Shaun Goad (Wynyard) and Tyneside’s Daniel Beeson.

Thompson had won his semi-final against Jamie Austwicke (Hartlepool) by one hole in an equally close-fought match, having impressively beaten Durham City’s Graham Marchbank earlier in the competition.

*Whitburn Golf Club tomorrow stage the Durham County Teams Championship, with 36 clubs taking part.

Whitburn are joined by Boldon and South Shields in being the first off the tee, with a 7.30am start for the first of each of their four players.
