Newcastle still an option for Lovenkrands

Peter Lovenkrands is looking for a Premier League club – but the forward has not ruled out staying at relegated Newcastle United.

Lovenkrands joined Newcastle on a short-term deal in January after leaving German side Schalke 04, and the 29-year-old impressed with three goals in 12 appearances.

While the former Denmark international would prefer to stay in Premier League, his agent, Ivan Marko Benes, insists a return to St James's Park is "not out of the question", though the continued uncertainty over the ownership and managership could see him find a new employer before United are able to put an offer to him.

"Yes, we are looking for a new club," said Benes. "Is it out of the question that he stays at Newcastle? I don't think so, but we will find a club for him, and that's what we are working on now.

"There is only speculation at the moment, but I think we will find a good club for him. What does he wish for in his future career? He wants to stay in the UK, and preferably at the highest level possible."

Lovenkrands's career had looked to be in decline after injuries restricted his appearances for Schalke in the first half of last season, prompting his release.

But despite a lack of fitness, the ex-Rangers star had an almost immediate impact for Newcastle, scoring on his full debut at West Brom. He netted three times in 12 outings.
