Sunderland Clarion’s Neil Wallbank continued to show his fine form with a strong seventh-place finish in the Cestria Cycles Race Team Road Race 1.
It was another strong showing from Wallbank in his first full year back on the road.
Early, he found himself in a strong break-away move with four other riders.
The break worked well together, but were unable to open up a significant gap until they were joined by Adam Martin (Metaltek – Knights of Old RT).
Martin’s strength showed when he attacked the group, with only Rob Carter (TS Racing Team – Vankru) able to follow the youngster, but he couldn’t do anything to beat Martin in the sprint for the line.
In the end, Wallbank’s group were caught just prior to the line, with Nick Spencer (Gosforth RC) and Ian Norris (Blumilk.com) finishing third and fourth respectively.
It was a mixed day for the other Clarion riders in the race with Craig Stephenson finishing well.
Bad luck cost Michael Sloanes a chance of showing his fine form when he snapped his chain early in the race.
The Clarion riders will be hoping their luck changes for Saturday, May 25, when the club hosts an afternoon of racing at Hetton Lyons Country Park.
