St Gabriels A closed the gap on third placed St Chads in division one with a 9-1 romp against Thompson Insurance B.
David Robson and George Gibson breezed through the match for St Gabriels, each winning their single matches with ease.
Tom Bainbridge added a further two wins, and then combined with Norman Pescod to take the doubles 3-0. Bainbridge later lost out to Eddie Coxon 3-2.
Durham CA remain second in division two, but they have teams breathing down their neck after their 5-5 draw against St Aidan’s A.
Robin Kerr was the star of the show, as the St Aidan’s number one, won his three singles for the loss of just one game.
David Thomson added a further victory and then the two players combined to take the doubles.
This ended the scoring for the away side, as Durham hit back through two victories each from Gavin Bestford and Stuart Anderson and one for John Foster to deny St Aidan’s victory.
Mortimer CA moved up to third with an 8-2 win against relegation threatened St John A.
Dave Cutler was too good for St John and claimed three victories. Ray Purves matched this for Mortimer, with Ian Moore responding with a single win.
St John battled all the way, with Craig Burton and Craig Hilton both scoring impressive victories against Moore.
St Gabriels B eased their own relegation worries with an 8-2 win against bottom side St Gabriels C.
Dave Revell duly took his three singles for the B side. He was well assisted by Mark Burton and Geoff Young who each won twice. Young lost to C team’s number one Syd Gooding. Burton also lost out 3-2 to Alan Ray.
Sacriston St Bedes B look to have built up a commanding lead at the top of division three after their latest success, a 10-0 win against Boldon Tennis Club. The Sacriston side of Duncan Fraser, Nigel Coe and Mark Walton were commanding in the match and dropped just one game all night.
St John C had two comfortable wins, 9-1 against both St John B and Silksworth IM B, propelling them into the second promotion place.
In their match against St John B, Alex Smith and Gary Anderson both won their matches for the C team 3-0. Tony Watson also had two victories.
Viv Ford saved her team’s blushes as she produced a good performance to defeat Watson 3-1.
St Aidans B are still in the promotion race after their 7-3 victory against a fading Silksworth IM B as Graham Sleep took three victories.
Graham Sleep and Tom Turner both won twice, but found the improving Michael Cameron, too strong. Cameron claimed a 11-9 victory against Brown in the fifth.
