Silksworth off to flier in search for fourth successive Earl Cup crown

SILKSWORTH made a winning start to their quest for a fourth consecutive Earl Cup title with a 35-shot 6-1 home win over South Hylton.

Roker Marine, last season’s runners-up, also got off to a winning start with a 40-shot 6½-½ success against Thompson Park, while Houghton Dairy Lane beat Barnes Park 5-2.

In Division Two, Barnes West End saw off Sunderland by 48 shots (6½-½), while Hetton Workmen’s had a good 5-2 win at Ryhope.

In the battle of the relegated sides, Seaham Town pipped Houghton Town 64-61 (4-3).

North Biddick outgunned Grindon Mill 73-47¼ in Division Three, while New Herrington, who managed just one win last season, enjoyed a cracking 5-2 triumph at Whitburn and Hylton CW eased to a 59-shot (6-1) win over Pemberton.
