SEAHAM face a crucial clash with South Shields tonight in their bid to win promotion from Division Two of the North Durham Union League.

Seaham climbed into second place with last week’s 10-4 defeat of Crook, but Shields, fresh from beating Houghton 9-5, are also in the promotion hunt.

Chester-le-Street lead the way on 82 points, five ahead of Seaham and eight better than Houghton, though the second and third-placed teams both have an extra match to play.

Houghton will be confident of securing a victory in their game at bottom club Beamish Park.

Durham City are five points clear of South Moor in the First Division, with three games left, and will look to make amends for last week’s narrow loss to their closest challengers when they head to Consett tonight.

Whitburn will look to strengthen their Third Division promotion push by winning away to bottom club Garesfield, who have managed just one win in 10 matches. Whitburn routed the strugglers 13-1 earlier in the season.
