DURHAM County’s hopes of progress in the Balcombe double fours were dashed as they lost 38-34 to Derbyshire in the regional semi-final at Kirkbymoorside.
The clash was decided on the outcome of the last ends on both rinks – Silksworth’s David Bolt dropped a three and Darlington RA’s Andrew Kirtland lost by one.
In the regional final, Derbyshire beat Cumbria 31-30 to qualify for Worthing in August, when they will play Essex.
H In the Northern Counties Alsop Cup, Durham’s B team recorded a third straight win, 136-91 over Lancashire, to secure 20 points and setting up this weekend’s final game against Cumbria at Stockton as the decider. Durham hold a 14-point lead over Cumbria and, with 22 points on offer, will be confident of fending off their rivals.
