HUSBAND and wife pairing Locky and Anne Locky Todd lifted the Sunderland Mixed Pairs title after defeating Pat Johnson and Ray Robinson 14-8 in the final.
The early exchanges saw the Todds race into a 9-0 lead after only four ends, but last year’s beaten finalists responded to get the score back to 10-7.
With time and ends running out, the 12th end proved decisive as the Todds trailed the jack a couple of inches to collect a treble to open up a 13-8 lead.
With time up, the 13th end was the final end with Robinson needing a six to steal the title.
There was a slim chance of that happening, but a couple of Todd running bowls, followed by a draw, ended Robinson’s hopes as a dropped single enabled Todd to seal victory.
