Garvin puts Whitburn in command

WHITBURN continue to set the pace in Division One of the Westoe Removals Sunderland Snooker League, after a strong performance against Seaham Knack kept them five points clear at the top.

Hylton A reduced the deficit with a 5-0 win against Pennywell A.

Shaun Donnelly took the first against Paul Garvin before a 31 helped Whitburn’s John Smith to level.

Derek White and Phil Freeman took Whitburn into a 3-1 lead and a 60 by Paul Garvin settled the pairs in favour of Whitburn.

Norman Leslie had a 37 break in the first against Pennywell A before Bob Boyce, Kevin Harrop and Neil Brigham took the next three singles.

Leslie and Browne took the pairs for Hylton to complete the whitewash.

Tom Feenan had a 49 break to give Farringdon A a good start against Woodside B and Mick McLoughlin increased the lead in the second.

Ritchie Miller pulled one back in the third but Tony Hazard took the fourth.

The first two winners for Farringdon took the pairs for a 4-1 result.

Mill View A lost the first three frames against Biddick A before Adam Burnell won his fifth consecutive frame to reduce the lead. Mill View then won the pairs match.

The Avenue took an early lead against Mill View B as Gary Moore had a 39 break in the first and Mark Fox claimed the second. John Spruce claimed the third for Mill View.

Bob Fisher took the early honours for Avenue and built a 24 lead before Norman Brown staged a come back to win 58-50 on the black.

With the game level, Moore and Fox proved too strong in winning the pairs.

Green Baize showed their true form against Pennywell B as Dean Wilson took the first.

Ken Brown forced a re-spot on the black and then took the black for a 41-34 success.

Craig Kane and Jeff Burn took the Baize into a 4-0 advantage in the next two singles but lost the pairs to Klien and Taylor 59-37.

Steels A had a welcome 3-2 victory against Hylton B with Adam Smith and Michael Sayer taking the first two before Kev Steabler replied for Hylton.

Ken Haley restored the lead before Watkin and Garam won the pairs for Hylton.

Cheemas C and Washington Snooker B lead Division Two but there are some challengers emerging.

Mark Farnsworth had a 31 in his singles and a 50 in the pairs for Cheemas C against Seaham Cons who battled, but were unable to match the play of Cheemas.

Anth Miller, Paul Kirsop and Paul Yuk took the next three singles and Farnsworth and Miller claimed the pairs in a 5-0 result.

The score was matched by Washington B with a 5-0 against Washington Union.

Gavin Dixon took the first but Billy Shotton had to battle to beat Billy Bulch 63-57.

Garry Bell and Alex Hannan were clear-cut winners with Boll and Tiffin successful in the pairs.

Glendale had a 4-1 win against the Railway to keep up their unbeaten run.

Murton Officials produced a good 5-0 winning performance against St Gabriel’s with Manna Singh having 33 and 28 breaks in his singles and Jim Ashcroft in control to win 64-1 in his.

Bobby Lamb was under the cosh from Bill Longley, recovering from a 41 deficit to eventually win 57-49.

Harland and Paul Davidson had 22 and 28 breaks in winning the pairs.

Pennywell C came good with a 5-0 victory against Cheemas B with Ian McDermott, George Clark, Brian Parkin and Kevin McDermot winning their single. McDermot and Burnikell took the pairs.

Cheemas A led the singles 3-1 before Scott and Wrathmall claimed the pairs for Farringdon.

Murton Vic beat the Victory 3-2 with Steven Clementson and Eddie Williamson having 31 and 41 breaks in their singles.
