HOUGHTON Dairy Lane’s Joan Rodgerson suffered double disappointment in the ladies’ Durham County competitions.
In the pairs semi-final, partnered by Susan Forster, she overcame Consett Park’s Ann Bernard 27-13, but then lost the county final 21-13 to Consett Park’s Gill Jones.
Rodgerson’s second disappointment came in the singles as Jones inflicted a 21-8 semi-final defeat. The eventual county champion was Darlington Woodland’s Ann Anderson, who beat Jones 21-14.
Rodgerson entertains Hetton’s Norma Stephenson in the Bowls England Over-55 pairs area semi-final, with the winner having to face Jones.
H Durham County Ladies progressed to the Walker Cup double fours regional semi-finals after a dramatic extra end win over Northumberland.
With the scores tied at 41-41, the rink of Susan Forster, Fay Slinn, Joan Rodgerson and Gill Jones secured the match-winning shot. In the semis, Durham will face Derbyshire at York Railway on Sunday, July 14.
H England took the title in the Ladies Home International series at Glasgow, finishing undefeated after beating Jersey 135-99, hosts Scotland 131-96, Ireland 130-88 and Wales 118-117.
