SEAHAM’S Colin Bentham landed the Durham County Third Division Championship at Garesfield on Saturday.
The 13-handicapper posted a round of 84 in difficult conditions for a brilliant nett winning score of 71, one ahead of the host club’s Bob Patterson, with another Garesfield member, Jimmy Patterson, two shots further down.
Seaham 12-handicapper Jonathan Rennoldson finished up fourth with a nett 77, and clubmate Terence Forth was sixth (79). Seaham also placed Paul Price 16th (83) and Laurie McKenna 20th (86).
Houghton’s J. Burton ended 14th (81), while Ray Bell (Durham City) was 18th (85).
H American Ben Crane finished three over par in the final round at the St Jude Classic last night but still managed to hold on to seal his first PGA Tour victory since 2011.
Crane failed to shoot a single birdie on the last day at TPC Southwind in Memphis but the American’s 73 saw him card 10 under par for the tournament to finish one shot clear of Troy Merritt.
