Broom battlers off mark at last!

Have your say

SUNDERLAND Broom Ladies finally broke their duck in the North League last weekend, giving them hope of avoiding bottom spot in Division Two North East.

The Wearsiders ended a run of 10 successive league defeats to claim their first points of the campaign in a dramatic 4-2 victory at home to second-bottom Morpeth seconds.

The three points took Broom within a point of the Northumberland outfit, with third-bottom Newcastle Medics well clear on 13 points.

This Saturday, Broom have a tough trip to fourth-top Durham City (Maiden Castle, 3pm).

H In the men’s leagues, Sunderland Broom firsts – beaten 6-1 at Newcastle University seconds last week – are away to North Shields firsts in the North East League’s Premier Division on Saturday, while the Ashbrooke club’s seconds, fresh from a 7-0 demolition from Marton Furness thirds, hosts Stockton fourths at Sandhill View in Intermediate 2.
