Matthew’s record-breaking feats saw him smash the British 400m Individual Medley, 200m Butterfly, 800m and 1500m Freestyle record times, as well as the European and World 1500m Short Course record times.
A delighted Matthew received the award from Ian Payne of Tyne Tees Televisions North East Tonight.
Matthew will shortly be taking part in the British Gas Championships, where he has qualified for five events. This will determine the qualifiers for the London 2012 Paralympics.
