Rose blooms after superb fightback

NEIL Rose produced a dramatic fight back after Phil Dunn looked on course for a shock win when he stormed into a 3-0 lead in the John Smith’s Knack Seaham Premier League.

Rose showed all his battling qualities to reel off five straight legs in 22, 17, 15, 20 and 23 darts, including a maximum and a 100 finish, to pick up the three points.

Eddie Ashman had a mixed night as he opened up with a solid performance when he dented Anth Skelton’s hopes of a top-eight finish with a 5-3 win.

However, Ashman later succumbed to a defeat by the same scoreline against Kevin Guy, who ended Ashman’s hopes of catching Guy in fourth place.

Guy won in legs of 15, 18 and 20 darts, while Ashman’s best was a 17-darter.

Anth Skelton picked up an excellent point against reigning champ Graham Mullen, in a high-scoring encouter which saw Mullen hit his 24th maximum of the season.

Earlier in the evening, Mullen easily beat Barry Rutherford, with best legs of 17 (twice) and 19 darts in a 5-0 win.

Paul Williams remains two points clear after a 5-0 win against Ray Malarkey, with Williams’ best legs coming in 18, 19 and 20 darts.

Jimmy Ashett also hit his 24th 180 of the season when he beat Mark Robinson 5-1.

Davey Thompson hit a rare 180 as he ruthlessly beat Steve Skinner.

Thompson’s best legs were in 15, 16, 20 and 21 darts, which left Skinner’s hopes of a top eight place hanging by a thread as he faces a tough run in.

John Redpath moved in to eighth place for the first time after a 5-1 win against John Squire.

Alan Smith was a comfortable winner against Neil Richardson with a 5-1 triumph.

Spiller Henderson stays in the hunt for eighth place when he closed the gap to three points with three games to go after a hard-fought 5-3 success against Martin Price.
