JIMMY Ashett was in superb form in this week’s Knack Premier League in Seaham, defeating league leader Paul Williams 5-2.
The win moves Ashett to within two points of Williams at the top.
Paul hit a maximum and won his legs in 15 and 16 darts but it was Ashett who came out on top which included equalling a season-best leg of 11 darts.
He threw 180,140,140 and a 41 finish in two darts.
There was also wins for both players later in the night as Jimmy Ashett disposed of John Squire 5-1, with a 17-darter.
Williams ended John Redpath’s recent winning run with a 5-2 win.
Williams hit two maximums and won his legs in 20, 17, 22, 19 and 14 darts.
Martin Price finally moved off the bottom after he held fourth-placed Kevin Guy to a 4-4 draw.
Price’s best legs were in 19 and 20 darts, while Guy hit a maximum and 15, 17 and 19-darter legs.
Anth Skelton missed five darts at double top which would of seen him take three crucial points in the race for the last finals night place.
Skelton had to settle for a draw with his superleague and county team-mate Davey Thompson, best legs of 21 and two 18-darters by Thompson the highlights of the match.
Graham Mullen hit two 180s in a high-scoring performance while defeating Ray Malarkey, with great 16, 20 and 21-darters legs.
Spiller Henderson refuses to be defeated in the race for the top eight as he closed the gap to just four points with four games to go with a 5-2 win against Neil Richardson.
Mark Robinson was a 5-3 winner against Phil Dunn in another high-scoring affair.
Robinson hit 16 ton-plus scores including a 180 and won in legs of 21, 17, 23, 19 and 20 darts, while Dunn’s best were 18 and 21-darters.
Eddie Ashman climbed up to fifth in the league with a comfortable 5-1 win over Steve Skinner.
Asham’s best legs were in 16, 20 and 21 darts, while Skinner hit a maximum in his 18-dart winning leg.
Neil Rose hit two 18-darters including a 117 checkout in a 5-2 win against Alan Smith.
