Tyne and Wear County star Ryan Joyce came out victorious in the fifth Knack Open at the weekend – with a bumper crowd turning out for one of the favourite darts competitions on the North East calender.
Joyce beat fellow Tyne and Wear man Paul McGowan in the final.
The tournament saw 91 player enter the main event, which saw PDC Tour card holders Chris Dobey and David Dodds fall at the preliminary stage.
Paul Jennings put the former Knack Open champ, and top Tyne and Wear player, Andy Chalmers out at the same stage.
Claire Stainsby was victorious over Eddie Mordica, while Paul Williams, Kevin Elliott, Neil Rose and Rob McCluskey made it through to the last 16.
Dave Stokell defeated reigning champion Phil Borthwick, but McGowan ended Paul Jennings’ run.
Jonny Gardner made the semi-final stage for the second consecutive year, with a win over Gary Miller.
The semis saw Joyce beat Stokell and McGowan eliminating Gardner.
The final produced some tremendous darts, but it was Joyce who ran out a worthy champion .
South Shields’ top women’s player, Annmarie Potts, successfully defended her title when she beat Toni-Lee Bowstead in the final.
