Dokan karate club has been celebrating a very successful year and is now looking forward to a busy 2016.

The club, which runs junior and adult classes in South Tyneside and Sunderland, held its largest ever grading ceremony last month, followed by a presentation party at Whitburn Social Club.

The event was attended by more than 200 people.

Highlights of the past year included the Kyu Grade Nationals, where the club missed out on being named the most successful association in the country in the events medal table, by just one medal.

The year ended with 11 national and 11 international champions.

Students entered 11 tournaments in Britain and Europe and won 121 gold, 130 silver and 181 bronze medals combined.

The club is looking forward to 2016 with the Kyu Grade nationals on January 17, followed by their own fight night at Whitburn Social Club on February 7.

Any local clubs interested in entering the fight night should contact Kev Mitch on 07939130411 or email k-mitch@live.co.uk.
