ANTH Skelton produced an upset in the John Smith’s Knack Premier League, handing out a 5-1 thrashing to second-placed Eddie Ashman 5-1.
That sparkling performance ended a run of nine straight wins for Ashman, who is now six points adrift of leader Neil Rose.
Despite losing the first leg, Skelton went on to win the next five, including 18, 19 and 20-darters, to seal victory.
Elsewhere, Ryhope’s John Redpath staged a stunning comeback against Alan Smith, coming from 4-0 down to draw the match. Smith had produced two 180s to race into a commanding lead, but was unable to capitalise on the four leg advantage and had to settle for a tie.
Table-topping Rose continued his superb form, making it 12 wins from 12 with a 5-1 victory over Spiller Henderson, while Kevin Guy remains in fourth, after a 4-4 draw with Steve Skinner. Guy blew a two-leg lead and trailed 4-3 before snatching a point.
Martin Prince’s poor form continued, as he lost 5-2 to team-mate Anthony Gale, and Paul Gillibrand moved to within a point of the top eight with a 5-2 success over Neil Richardson, hitting his first 180 since joining the league.
