Hat-trick of SoL failures a big worry

Our home form is becoming a concern now.

If you include our cup game against Blackburn Rovers, that's five defeats at the Stadium of Light already this season – the last three on the trot.

And for a club whose home form kept them in the division last season, that has to be a worry.

In the Premier League we have now taken seven points from 21 and while that's not a disaster, it's not good either.

We have actually picked up more points away from home than at the Stadium of Light.

And that can't be right.

Your home form is what you rely on. Any points taken on your travels is a bonus. The win over Blackburn Rovers the other week should have been a lovely bonus but as it was, those points were vital to keep us away from the relegation zone.

Home form needs to be addressed and hopefully we can do that against Bolton Wanderers this Saturday.

Bolton will never be a club which drips glamour but only a fool would underestimate them.

They joy in upsetting applecarts and they're in good form too – nine points from their last 12.

How Sunderland will fare is anyone's guess because we are turning up to games these days just not knowing what to expect.

It's certainly a winnable game but it won't be easy because Bolton's robust players like Kevin Davies and Gavin McCann will not only be undaunted by the challenge of coming to the Stadium of Light, they will be relishing it.

Last week I was hoping for at least four points from these two home games.

Three points is lower than earlier expectations but it will be gratefully accepted now.
