HOUGHTON CC’s Mark Harrison rode the Border City Wheelers Open Hill Climb on Sunday and came in a repsectable fifth with a time of 20 minutes 25.1 seconds.
Harrison also claimed the senior prize, on the hills of Hartside.
The eventual winner was John Finley (Bill Nickson Cycles) in a time of 19.32.

Harrison’s next event is the GS Metro 2 stage Hill Climb tomorrow.
The first stage is at Hedley on the Hill and the second stage is at Eastgate Bank, Stocksfield.
The course record is held by Luke Mullen (Hetton Hawks), who will also be defending his title.
H Ten riders from Houghton CC were also out in force at the Otley Sportive on Saturday where there was a field of over 350 riders.
The ride started and finished in Otley and took in the North Yorkshire National Park.
H Paul Whitehill (Houghton CC) competed in the Super Saturday TLI Cyclox series, at Hardwick Park, completing eight laps in a time of 52 minutes 59 seconds.
The winner was John Bayley (Gosforth RC) in a time of 49.50.
The riders’ best six times out of eight races will be taken for overall placings at the end of the series.

H Whitehill and Paul Robson (Houghton CC) competed in round two of Cyclo Cross North East (CXNE) series at Gateshead Stadium, finishing 36th and 56th respectively.
The next event will take place at Thorneyford Farm, Ponteland on Sunday.
The riders gain points for each of their events, and points can go down to 30th place, depending on the size of the field.
At the end of the season – September to end of February – the riders with the most points are then awarded their placings.
