THE Westoe Removals Sunderland Snooker League Second Division title seems to be heading to Grindon Social, with only two games remaining in a very compeitive season.
A 5-0 result against Cheema’s put them one point ahead of Biddick A with a game in hand.
Biddick A visited the Duck and lost the first frame to Neville Thubron. A close second frame went to Marsh Brough to level before Ron Turnbull and Graham Smith made it 3-1 to Biddick A. Biddick A made it 4-1 in the pairs.
A club-double saw Biddick B gain a 4-1 victory against Seaham Cons with George Elliot the only winner for the Cons. John Temple won his singles and joined Peter Mills in winning the pairs.
St Gabriel’s started brightly as Bill Longley beat Robin Midson, but this was their only success as Murton responded by taking the last four frames.
Victory Club lost the first three frames against Railway before fighting back to take the last two.
Steels B duly won the First Division by gaining the point they needed, but they suffered a 4-1 defeat to Green Baize in the process.
Hylton A are runners-up with a 4-1 win against the Avenue.
Farringdon had a good game with Hylton B. Ian Stewart set Farringdon on the right path in the first frame before Colin Wrathmall increased the lead. Chris Watkin and Andrew Jackson took the next two to make it all square and Tony Hazard claimed a 3-2 result.
John Smith took the first frame for Whitburn against Steels A, before Ernie Lunney beat Tom Ayre. A match-winning frame by Phil Freeman, in the third, was followed by Derek White in the fourth. It was desperation time for Steels in their relegation battle and Charlton and Ayre claimed a point in the pairs.
Woodside A suffered a 4-1 defeat by Pennywell Coms A. Ritchie Milner was their only winner after beating Joe Turner in the second. Mark Anderson and Paul Wyatt had comfortable results before Alf Turner beat Wayne Foreman. O’Wellan and Anderson won the pairs.
The inter-club match between Mill View A and B teams ended 3-2 to the A team. Keith Johnston beat Ken Sands in the first, Kevin Alderson thwarted Norman Brown’s comeback by winning on the pink.
John Burnell gave the A team a match-winning 3-0 lead, before John Spruce won the fourth and Chandler and Bate won the pairs.
Mark Bell won to give Washington the lead against the Knack, before Glen Edwards, George Dormand and Tony Henderson won the next three for the home team. P. and M. Baker won the pairs for Washington.
H Dave Adamson beat Robin Midson 3-1 in the Second Division final.
