CHESTER-LE-STREET ASC swimmer Lauren Graham competed in six events at the British Gas ASA National Age Group Championships, held at Sheffield, and won a 100m freestyle bronze medal.
The success came in a thrilling final with less than half a second separating the three medal winners.
City of Newcastle’s Miriam Jessett took gold in 59.02, followed by Stockport’s Madeline Crompton in 59.39, with Lauren touching home in 59.51 – an improvement of 0.33 of a second on her heat qualification time.
Lauren (13) also demonstrated her versatility by competing at the highest national age group level in the 200m butterfly where she finished 13th in a time of 2.27.58, 100m butterfly (21st in 1.08.08), 200m freestyle (25th in 2.13.01) as well as in the 400m freestyle and 400m individual medley events with respective 26th and 31st place finishes.
Further National Age Group success was enjoyed by 14-year-old Alexandra Clements, who finished 31st in the 100m backstroke in 1.08.69 and 35th in the 200m backstroke (2.29.62), while 12-year-old Georgina Lee finished 34th in the 200m butterfly (2.51.38).
Mark Ovington represented Chester-le-Street in the National Youth Championships, with the 15-year-old just missing out on a top ten finish in the 1500m freestyle, finishing in 11th place with a time of 16.26.17.
Mark also took part in the 400m freestyle finishing 24th with a time of 4.11.41. Adam Charlton and Mason Jacques also qualified for events at the championships but were both withdrawn due to injury.
In the 2k National Open Water Championships held at Rother Valley, Chester-le-Street’s Rosie Lindsay (16) finished 20th overall with a time of 25.34.10.
