GARY Moore’s outstanding break of 79 led The Avenue to an impressive 3-1 Group Three victory against Grindon leading to a 3-1 victory in the Westoe Removals Sunderland Summer League.
Chris Henderson followed up with a 63-28 success and Bob Fisher narrowly lost 45-40 to Neil Brigham. Moore and Fisher took the pairs for Avenue.
Hylton A’s run of 4-0 wins ended as battling Seaham Knack claimed a 2-2 draw. Knack’s Glen Edwards took the first 69-23, but Bob Boyce levelled. Stephen Henderson (70-47) regained the lead before Hylton’s Leslie and Bradley took the pairs 71-39.
Mill View B enjoyed a terrific 4-0 Group Five win at Railway. John Spruce survived an impressive recovery from Joe Beston to take the opener, then Carl Davis produced a screamer on the black to edge a nip and tuck clash with Gary Turner.
Ken Sands had breaks of 42 and 22 to dominate the third, and he continued his superb form in the pairs to complete the whitewash. Seaham Cons won 3-1 at Cheemas A.
Biddick A came good with a 3-1 at Mill View A. John Burnell was outstanding in the first frame, seeing off Graham Smith 62-29 before Rod Turnbull and Mick Riley replied by taking the next two singles for Biddick. Adamson and Froud triumphed in the pairs.
Pennywell Comrades C were shocked as Hylton B cruised home 4-0. Kev Stabler was a 66-26 winner against Kevin McDermott, with Chris Watkin and Daz Harem making it 3-0 before Stabler and Watkin squeezed home in the pairs.
Farringdon, playing catch-up, had two Group One games. Ian Stewart scored a 75-32 win against Woodside B, but the visitors rallied to win, with Foreman and Milner taking the pairs.
Farringdon also drew 2-2 with Pennywell Comrades B. Stewart and Tony Hazard won for the hosts, but Mark Anderson’s singles win, plus a pairs success from O’Wellen and Turner ensured the draw.
The Duck had singles wins from Neil Thubron (65-31 against Ritchie Milner) and Lee Dixon in their draw with Woodside B, for whom Dave Manning won. Milner and Qazi took the pairs.
Steels B and Green Baize also shared the spoils. Dean Wilson won the first against Adam Smith, with Chris Cowie taking the second against Jeff Burn. Peter Dambrosie beat Gary Bell in the third before McLaren and Smith forced a draw in the pairs.
The Group Two title race looks sure to go to the wire, with three teams showing good form.
Pennywell Comrades B’s Bob Klein suffered his first defeat in losing against Farringdon B, but Stuart Taylor and Steve Joyce turned it around before they teamed up for a pairs success.
Kev Cunningham had a 24 break for Cheemas C against Murton Officials before the hosts fought back for a 3-1 victory. Washington Snooker beat Steels A 3-1, with Mark Bell having a 24 break.
