ANTHONY Gale pulled off a shock win over Mark Robinson to move up three places in the John Smith’s Knack Premier Leaguen table with his first win in 10 games.
Defeat all but ends Robinson’s chance of a finals night spot, with Gale’s 19-darter the best leg.
Kevin Guy and Spiller Henderson produced a thriller which went the full eight legs, with Guy snatching a 5-3 victory with the help of 22 ton-plus scores, plus two 15-darters with checkouts of 135 and 100. Henderson’s best leg was a 17-darter.
Neil Rose secured a much-improved victory over great rival Davey Thompson 5-3, with a maximum and winning legs in 14, 18 and 19 (twice). Thompson had two 15-darters.
Leader Paul Williams was in excellent form again, beating bottom-placed Martin Price 5-1 with two maximums, a 13-darter and two legs in 17 for a 28.64 per dart average. Price won his leg in 18 darts with a tremendous 144 checkout.
Eddie Ashman cruised to a 5-1 win against Neil Richardson, inspired by two 16-darters and a 116 checkout. He climbs to fifth as a result.
Jimmy Ashett stayed second after a comfortable 5-1 win against Barry Rutherford, with two 16-dart legs the highlights, while Ray Malarkey put a huge dent in Ryhope’s John Redpath’s aspirations of a top-eight finish after a surprise 5-3 win.
Steve Skinner, eighth at the moment, claimed a hard-fought 5-3 win against Alan Smith, who is starting to show sign’s of returning to his best form, however youngster Phil Dunn pulled off an unexpected 5-3 win against Skinner later, helped by legs in 16, 20 and 21 darts. Skinner managed a 17-darter.
