Sunderland AFC are getting busy in the transfer market before the window slams shut at 11pm tonight. Gus Poyet has been reunited with Liam Bridcutt from his former club Brighton for a fee of £2.5 million for three and a half years.
However, the rumours of Cattermole leaving Wearside are still on going. We have a quick look at how these midfielders compare, and what Bridcutt can bring to the Stadium of Light.
Having played for Brighton since the summer of 2010, Bridcutt has only scored two goals in 148 appearances. However, similarly to Cattermole, he is a passionate player who is not afraid to get involved with a tackle or two.
Unlike Cattermole though, the new Black Cats signing has only had two red cards in the whole of his professional career and 33 yellows. This is significantly different to Cattermole, who has been given seven reds and 62 yellow cards over a career spanning over eight years.
With reports that Stoke are still speaking the Sunderland about Cattermole, it will be interesting to see what this new signing can bring to the side.
Known for his strong passing skills, Poyet will be hoping Bridcutt will help in the battle for the survival in the Premier League.
