SUNDERLAND’S pursuit of Manchester City striker John Guidetti this summer is set to end in disappointment according to the Daily Star Sunday.
The newspaper says that though Sunderland and West Brom are after the young Swedish international, new Man City boss Manuel Pellegrini is a big admirer of a proflic striker who had all of last season wiped out after being laid low by a virus caught from eating a chicken meal.
Pellegrini tried to take the 21-year-old on loan last season to Malaga and the Star Sunday columnist Paul Hetherington says he wants to give the forward the chance to prove himself next season rather than leaving on loan or even permanently.
The paper says Guidetti is now fit again having returned to pre-season training a month early, where he has been doing three sessions a day.
Sunderland will not give up their purusit of a player Man City are said to rate in the £10m bracket but it seems clear than any move for the player will not be as straight-forward as the Black Cats might originally have hoped before Roberton Mancini’s sacking as City boss at the end of last season.
