LIVERPOOL have finally made a breakthrough in their pursuit of Newcastle United striker Andy Carroll.
The Merseysiders’ official club website has confirmed that the Magpies have accepted a bid of around £35million.
United’s statement said: “A transfer request from striker Andy Carroll has been accepted.
“The 22-year-old England international has this afternoon handed in a transfer request, which has reluctantly been accepted by the club, and Carroll is currently in talks with Liverpool over a move to Anfield.”
The news comes only minutes after the Geordie hitman handed in a transfer request after learning of Liverpool’s improved offer.
Carroll is now on his way down to the Reds’ training ground Melwood to discuss personal terms on the British record transfer fee.
Sky Sports reported that Carroll had handed in a transfer request at around 5:30pm this evening, and if his move goes through it is expected to accelerate Fernando Torres’ move to Chelsea, leaving Liverpool with a brand new £60 million strike force.
