A FAN’S view of the £50million deal that could take Fernando Torres to Chelsea.
As a Liverpool fan and a local lad it is disappointing to see Fernando Torres wanting to leave.
In my point of view it is understandable for a player of his stature, as Champions League football is a must and Liverpool will not be in contention for the top four this season.
Luis Suarez is a great signing for the club and hopefully he can fulfil his potential in the English game, though if Torres is to leave within the next 24 hours another striker may be needed to bolster our attacking options.
Newcastle’s Andy Carroll is a top quality striker and has so far proven himself in the Premier League, but £30 million for a striker who has been in the top flight of English football for six months is a very steep figure. No doubt he is a player with a huge amount of talent and can only improve with experience, though, for me, if a deal went through, Liverpool will be paying over the odds for the young striker. If a deal is done, hopefully Carroll can prove critics wrong and help Liverpool climb back up the table.
