BARNSLEY defender John Stones, a Sunderland target during this transfer window, has spurned Wigan Athletic in favour of a move to Everton, it has emerged.
The Latics were thought to be in pole position to sign the 18-year-old full-back earlier after bidding £3million for his services.
But the Tykes man is now thought to be on his way to Merseyside to have a medical with Everton.
He has been scouted by many of the top Premier League during this transfer window but nobody had tabled an official bid until today.
Stones is tied to the club until 2015 and has been there for 10 years, making his debut last season against Reading.
