IT’S A day with more twists and turns than a Blackpool Pleasure Beach rollercoaster.

The only guarantees are Jim White sweating profusely, and Harry Redknapp treating it as a game of Supermarket Sweep while chatting to Sky Sports out of his car window.

Without further ado, here’s a look at some of the best deadline day transfers.

Ashley Cole: Chelsea got the better half of a deadline day deal in 2004, which saw William Gallas and £5m go to Arsenal. Since established himself as Englands and the worlds best left back.

Wayne Rooney: Signed for United in 2004, for a fee around £25m. Not much else needs saying about Englands most talented footballer.

Marouane Fellaini: The big Belgian with the big hair arrived at Everton for the big fee of £15m in 2008, but has been worth every penny for the Toffees.

Rafael Van der Vaart: Spurs received special dispensation to allow this deal to go through after the window had shut. At £8m, he has proved an unbelievable bargain, even by Harry Redknapp’s standards.

Carlos Tevez & Javier Mascherano: The Hammers shocked the football world when they brought in the two Argentine superstars in 2006. Mascherano failed to settle; Tevez almost single-handedly kept them up.
