ARSENAL are thought to be closing in on the signing of Malaga left-back Nacho Monreal for around £8.5million.
Radio Marca claims the 26-year-old is on his way to London to sign a deal with Arsene Wenger’s side, who had been desperate to land a left-back this month.
Kieran Gibbs is likely to be missing for the next three weeks due to injury, and it was thought Wenger was unwilling to trust Andre Santos to be his replacement.
The deal for Monreal may now cast doubt on the future of Santos, who has been linked with a move away from the Emirates Stadium.
Monreal started his career with Osasuna before joining Malaga in 2011, and he went on to become their first-choice left-back.
He is now leaving behind Malaga’s Champions League campaign to join the Gunners – and former team-mate Santi Cazorla – who will hope he can help lead him to a top-four finish.
Monreal has been capped nine times at national level by Spain and may hope a move to the Premier League will boost his international chances.
