FOOTBALL managers have named Sunderland’s performance against Chelsea the best of the week.

The League Managers’ Association (LMA) has selected Sunderland for its Performance of the Week award following the Black Cats’ win at Chelsea.

The decision was taken by a five-man panel, comprised of LMA chairman Howard Wilkinson, Sir Alex Ferguson, Joe Royle, Dave Bassett and Barry Fry.

Connor Wickham and Fabio Borini scored after Chelsea had taken an early lead through Samuel Eto’o. The defeat was the Blues’ first at Stamford Bridge in 78 league games under Jose Mourinho.

Head coach Gus Poyet, whose side face Cardiff City this weekend, will receive a specially engraved crystal football in recognition of the award.
