SANTIAGO Vergini’s return to Sunderland has been finalised in time for the Argentine defender to feature against Real Betis tonight.
Sunderland have been looking to re-sign Vergini throughout the summer after his successful loan spell during the second half of last season.
Vergini has now returned to the Stadium of Light on a season-long loan, to become Sunderland’s sixth signing of the summer.
“Firstly I’m very thankful to the club for giving me this opportunity,” said Vergini.
“I am very happy to be here once again. I’m also very happy to see so many recognisable faces.
“The challenge for me is to become part of this team and offer all I can so we have a good season.
“The feeling that I’ve had here at this club has been very good. It’s a big club.”
The 26-year-old had stepped off the Sunderland team bus for tonight’s friendly against Betis moments before his move was confirmed, and he will make his pre-season bow against the Spanish side.
