SUNDERLAND are rumoured to be hot on the trail of Lazio full-back Luis Pedro Cavanda.
There are claims that talks are ongoing with the Serie A club for the services of the 22-year-old right-back who would be a natural replacement for Phil Bardsley if, as expected, he departs the Stadium of Light this summer.
But a deal for the young prospect is not believed to be eminent, even though contacts have been made between the two clubs.
Cavanda is a Belgian Under 21 international of Angolan descent who made his Lazio debut in 2009 but only really established himself in the first team last season.
But he has been in dispute over his contract with the club since the middle of last season and an exit from the Italian club now looks likely.
Lazio are believed to value the youngster around the £4million mark but Sunderland would offer little more than half that sum.
Di Canio is keen to play with genuinely attacking full-backs at Sunderland next season and Cavanda fits that bill far more than anyone the Black Cats currently have on their books.
