EX-CHELSEA striker Salomon Kalou is rumoured to be on Sunderland’s radar as an alternative to Fabio Borini.
Liverpool frontman Borini remains Sunderland’s main target for the remainder of the transfer window, even though the Black Cats are now looking at a second loan deal - rather than a permanent switch - for the Italian.
But Sunderland, who enquired about Chile international Eduardo Vargas last week before he joined QPR, have been considering alternative options to Borini.
The Black Cats have been linked for several days with Lille’s Kalou, who has also been linked with West Ham and Wolfsburg.
But reports in Italy today have indicated that Sunderland have made an enquiry with the French outfit for the 29-year-old, who spent six seasons at Chelsea.
Lille have been looking for a £4million fee for Kalou, although Sunderland are thought to be primarily striving for loan deals in the remainder of the window.
