The Sun newspaper has linked Sunderland with a bold move for one of the hottest properties in football – 17-year-old striker Valmir Berisha, dubbed the new Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
The youngster, who plays for Swedish outfit Halmstads, has been linked with a move away from his homeland for months now.
But the suitors previously have been of the highest calibre with Liverpool, Arsenal, Manchester United and Real Madrid said to be monitoring him.
Berisha is already pondering his next move carefully and although a switch to Sunderland would seem bizarre, the chance of getting immediate first-team football could appeal if there is anything in the story.
Berisha said a couple of months ago when pondering his future: “The most important is the football education, I believe England would be the best option.
“I have rejected clubs like Arsenal and Manchester United, who have invited me for trials.
“There is Real Madrid now, the club of my dreams - I am keen to go there, but I think I will turn it down, unfortunately.”
The 17-year-old was a star of the youth world cup in the United Arab Emirates, and scored a hat-trick against Argentina in the third-place play-off.
