LE Havre full-back Benjamin Mendy is due on Wearside later this week to tie up a move to Sunderland, according to Press Association sport.
PA Sport claims the 18-year-old Le Havre defender is due to fly to England to complete his switch with the two clubs having agreed a deal some time ago.
Left-back Mendy has also been linked with Arsenal, Lyon and Marseille this summer, but the player has indicated that the Stadium of Light will be his destination and the latest news is that the transfer will be completed within days if talks go smoothly.
The Sunderland Echo revealed last week that Mendy fancied the move to Sunderland and now it looks as though a deal will be swiftly agreed.
That would represent a major boost for manager Paolo Di Canio and his recruitment team, headed by new director of football Roberto De Fanti, especially if Mendy signs in time to be able to fly out with the rest of the Sunderland squad this weekend for a specialist training camp in Northern Italy.
