M’Vila has been one of Sunderland’s main targets all summer after the French international shone in a red and white shirt during last season’s loan spell from Kazan.

The midfielder has been equally keen to return to the Stadium of Light after getting his career back on track at Sunderland, and is understood to have been willing to take a hefty pay cut from his £100,000-a-week Kazan contract.

The sticking point has been Kazan’s determination to bank a hefty fee for M’Vila’s services, despite only six months remaining on his contract at the club.

However, after weeks of haggling, it is understood that the two clubs are getting closer to agreeing a deal.

That would represent a major boost for Sunderland in their bid to make a first signing of the summer, with new boss David Moyes fully aware of M’Vila’s ability.

M’Vila was a target for Moyes in his final season at Everton, before the Scot took charge at Manchester United.

There have been speculative rumours of Everton again being interested in M’Vila this summer, yet the 26-year-old has always made it clear that he wants to return to Sunderland.

M’Vila returned to his homeland last week due to what were supposedly visa issues.
