SUNDERLAND and QPR have both been linked with former Everton midfielder Tim Cahill.
But the Echo understands that Sunderland are unlikely to make a move for the Australian, who scored one of the stand-out goals of the World Cup against Holland.
The Press Association today reported that Sunderland, QPR, plus several other clubs in Europe, were interested in bringing Cahill back to the Premier League after the midfielder has spent the past two years in Major League Soccer for New York Red Bulls.
Sunderland were keen on signing Cahill on loan in January 2013 as a stop-gap measure, only for the move to fall through.
But Cahill, who turns 35 in December, is not expected to be in Sunderland’s sights this summer, despite the Black Cats’ search for players with previous Premier League experience.
