DANNY Rose, Carlos Cuellar and Lee Cattermole have been ruled out of tomorrow’s Stadium of Light clash with Swansea.
The trio have all been receiving treatment over the last few weeks after Rose and Cuellar (both hamstring) limped off in the FA Cup third round clash at Bolton and Cattermole suffered a relapse on a knee injury during training.
Although the three are making progress, tomorrow’s Premier League encounter has come too soon for them.
Martin O’Neill said today: “At this moment, I think it would be too early for them.
“They’re coming on very well, but I need to see how things develop in training today.”
Meanwhile, O’Neill insists he remains hopeful of adding to his squad before Thursday’s transfer deadline.
Striker Danny Graham, who will visit the Stadium of Light tomorrow night with Swansea, is Sunderland’s main target, although former West Brom midfielder Paul Scharner is not thought to be on the Black Cats’ shopping list despite claims from his parent club, German side HSV.
“We’ve got a couple of days left and we’re trying to add someone else to the squad if it’s at all possible,” added O’Neill.
“We’re still looking and we’ll see what we can do. We’re hopeful, but there’s no guarantees.”
