SEB Larsson and Kieran Richardson are out for the rest of the season after undergoing hernia operations.
The two both went under the surgeon’s knife on Tuesday and will play no further part in the campaign – although surgery now for Larsson should mean he is available for the Euro 2012 finals.
Larsson has been playing through the pain barrier for weeks, while Richardson’s injury is more of a recent occurence,
Martin O’Neill told the Echo: “They’re both out for the rest of the campaign and obviously they’ll be miss, but I think we’ve done the right thing.
“Seb has been playing with it for weeks and was prepared to play through it until the end of the season and through the Euros, but we think this is better for him.
“He deserves it after the work he’s put in for us.
“It’s a fairly routine operation these days and they should both be back able to train within a few weeks.”
