JERMAIN Defoe and Lee Cattermole could both return for Sunderland’s crunch clash with West Brom tomorrow.
January signing Defoe missed last weekend’s FA Cup defeat at Bradford with a calf problem, while Cattermole hasn’t featured since December due to groin and knee injuries.
But Gus Poyet today confirmed both have a chance of featuring against the Baggies, although Defoe is more of a doubt than Cattermole after being confined to light training all week.
Poyet said today: “We thought in the beginning we were able to cope without Lee, but in certain ways, we didn’t.
“It’s an important game, where you need important characters and Lee is one of them.
“If everything is alright, he’s going to be there and Jermain the same.
“Jermain is a big more difficult because he hasn’t trained a lot.
“But there are moments and times that if you need to take a risk, you will, so we’ll see what happens tomorrow.”
Will Buckley, Emanuele Giaccherini and Billy Jones are all expected to miss tomorrow’s game, with fit-again Anthony Reveillere likely to take the place of the latter.
Midfielder Jack Rodwell, meanwhile, is rated as “50-50” as he continues his recovery from a groin injury.
