JOZY ALTIDORE is available for the USA’s World Cup second round clash after the Sunderland striker returned to training today.

Altidore injured his hamstring in the US’s opening group game in Brazil and there were genuine fears that the 24-year-old would miss the remainder of the tournament.

But while he didn’t complete the entire session today, Altidore played a part in full training and he is likely to be on the bench for tomorrow night’s last 16 encounter against Belgium.

US boss Jurgen Klinsmann admits it is “difficult to say how many minutes” Altidore is capable of playing in the last 16 encounter against Belgium.

But the former Germany striker added: “Just having him with us tomorrow is huge.”

While Altidore netted just one Premier League goal all season for Sunderland after his £7million move from AZ Alkmaar last summer, his fortunes have been vastly different on the international stage and has become a key figure for Jurgen Klinsmann’s side.

Ex-Fulham midfielder Clint Dempsey has led the US’s line in Altidore’s absence and he is likely to continue in that role tomorrow, with the Sunderland man offering an option as a substitute.
