Sunderland scout Billy McKinlay will join Simon Grayson's backroom staff while assistant manager Glynn Snodin recovers from a period of ill health.

McKinlay, who was assistant to David Moyes at Real Sociedad, joined the club last season to help the scouting operation.

He will now assist Grayson in first team matters on a temporary basis and is expected to be on the bench for tomorrow's game against QPR.

McKinlay has also had spells at Fulham, Watford and Norwegian side Stabaek.
